Paul enters Athens—a city full of temples and sincere worship. But he's troubled. The people worship without knowing the true God.
He reveals to the philosophers on Mars Hill (Areopagus): God transcends temples. God doesn't need human service. God made humanity in His image. And He (Paul) demands response through the resurrection of Jesus.
Three responses follow: Some mock. Some delay. Some believe.
The Athenians were sincere. But sincerity without knowledge falls short.
Their zeal is not based on knowledge. - Romans 10:2
God made everything. God doesn't need us. We're made in His image. God transcends our categories and creations.
Can you articulate this about the God you worship?
The heavens declare the glory of God. - Psalm 19:1
When Paul proclaimed the resurrection, some mocked. Some delayed. Some believed. The resurrection is God's proof of authority. It demands a response.
Jesus Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. - 1 Corinthians 15:20
Spiritual blindness isn't about lack of sincerity. It's about lacking true knowledge of God.
When you encounter Jesus—especially His resurrection—what will your response be? Mock? Delay? Believe?
Repent, then, and turn to God, so your sins may be wiped out. - Acts 3:19
Let your knowledge of God prove your faith is real.
