The Importance of Sharing the Gospel

Verses 12–16: Multitudes Become Believers
God continued to perform many signs and wonders through the apostles, and as a result, multitudes believed in the Lord. The people held the apostles in high regard because of the miracles they witnessed, even though many feared the authority of the Sanhedrin. God’s power was clearly at work, drawing people to salvation despite opposition.

Verses 17–32: The Apostles Arrested and Freed by an Angel
Moved by jealousy, the high priest and the Sadducees arrested the apostles for the second time and placed them in prison. During the night, however, an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and instructed them to stand in the temple courts and proclaim “all the words of this life”—the message of forgiveness of sins, salvation, and eternal life.

Soon afterward, the apostles were found teaching openly in the temple. They were brought before the council and questioned. With unwavering conviction, they declared that obedience to God must take precedence over obedience to men, boldly proclaiming the resurrection of Jesus Christ—“whom you killed by hanging Him on a tree.”

Verses 33–42: Rejoicing in Suffering
The council members were enraged and considered executing the apostles. However, Gamaliel, a respected Pharisee and teacher of the law, intervened. He reminded the council of past failed movements and warned that if this work was from God, opposing it would mean fighting against God Himself. His reasoning, along with concern over public reaction, persuaded the council to release the apostles.

Before their release, the apostles were severely beaten—receiving 39 lashes. Yet they departed rejoicing, “because they had been counted worthy to suffer disgrace for the Name.” Despite the suffering, they continued to teach and proclaim Jesus Christ without ceasing.

Our Response

The disciples rejoiced because they were counted worthy to suffer for the name of Jesus. Likewise, as we become active witnesses, we may face misunderstanding, rejection, discrimination, or even greater hardship. Yet God gives us this promise:

“After you have suffered a little while, [God] will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast.” - 1 Peter 5:10

Let us thank God for the privilege of suffering for His name and trust in His promise to restore, strengthen, and establish us as we faithfully share the Gospel.
